Gerrymander – Educational 2D Animation on Electoral Manipulation
Gerrymander is an educational animated short that explains — in a visually engaging and narratively compelling way — the manipulative political practice of redrawing electoral districts to gain unfair advantage, commonly known as gerrymandering.
We were responsible for the complete 2D production of the film — from storyboard development and script adaptation to full animation, visual effects, and final editing.
Project Overview:
The story begins in a dark cemetery at the grave of Elbridge Gerry — a historical figure whose name became synonymous with one of democracy’s dirtiest tricks. From there, the film rewinds to 1810 to explore how this tactic began, and transitions to the modern-day fictional state of Partisonia, where politicians use big data and redistricting software to perfect the art of gerrymandering.
Using clear visual metaphors, the film introduces concepts like packing and cracking, and explores how voter suppression and manipulation are achieved through map design — all told with a balance of humor, historical context, and modern relevance.
Scope of Work:
• Story development, scripting, and visual narrative design
• Character and environment design, 2D animation, motion graphics
• Integration of visual effects and infographic elements
• Voice-over production and final edit/mastering

The result is an educational and thought-provoking animation that makes a complex political issue accessible and engaging for a wide audience.
